Congratulations Jeannine DuMond, the 2025 NCMEA Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Jeannine DuMond has been an elementary music specialist for over three decades. She is currently the music specialist at Northern Guilford Elementary in Greensboro, NC, and has been in this role since 2007, when the school opened.
She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has maintained her National Board Certification since 2006. She is certified in Level I and II of World Music Drumming, as well as Levels I, II, and III of Orff-Schulwerk. Since 2012, she has served on the NCMEA Elementary Board as a District Representative and was Chair and Co-chair of the NCMEA Elementary Honors Chorus from 2014 to 2017. Jeannine currently serves as the Chair of the NCMEA Elementary Section. She and her students have presented and performed at the NCMEA Professional Development Conference from 2014 through 2022.
Her classroom fosters a love of learning among her students, where everyone feels welcomed. Her strong commitment to advocacy and access drives her efforts. Through successful grant writing and community collaborations, resources and instruments have been directly placed into students’ hands—ensuring that every child, regardless of background, can experience the transformative power of music.
Jeannine is deeply committed to supporting new teachers. She serves as a cooperating teacher for multiple universities and initiated the mentor/mentee program for Guilford County elementary music teachers. In addition to teaching and mentoring, Jeannine offers professional development for elementary music teachers in Guilford County and other regions, as well as at the NCMEA Elementary Mini-Conferences. Her focus is on the Neurodivergent Learner. She has also served as an All-County Choral Clinician for several counties in NC. Her article, “Dulcimers in the Elementary Classroom,” has been published in the North Carolina Music Educator Association Journal (Winter 2025) and the Iowa Music Educator Association Journal (Spring/Summer 2024).
Jeannine has been a music director for the Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG) since 2009. In addition to working with Main Stage and Junior productions, she has served as the musical director of Center Stage for 10 years. This competitive group of students, ages 10-18, has won numerous awards for Best Overall Performance and Best Vocals at the Broadway Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, GA, and Sacramento, CA. She currently serves on CTG’s Board of Directors.
In addition to being named the 2025 NCMEA Teacher of the Year, Jeannine DuMond also received the PTA Teacher of the Year award in 1998, 2005, and 2008.
