The Lisa Runner Future Music Educator Award is presented annually to one exceptional college senior pursuing a career in music education. This award honors the legacy of Dr. Lisa Adkins Runner by recognizing individuals who exemplify excellence, leadership, and dedication to the future of music education.
Eligibility Requirements
- Membership in CNAfME and NCMEA
- Nominees must be active members in good standing of the North Carolina state affiliate of the Collegiate National Association for Music Education (CNAfME) during the year of their nomination.
- Graduating Senior Status
- Nominees must be on track to enter their final year of a collegiate music education program and set to graduate within the following academic year of nomination.
- Commitment to Entering the Teaching Profession
- Nominees must demonstrate a clear intent to begin a career in music education during the upcoming school year following graduation.
- Nomination by a Professional Educator
- Nominees must be recommended by a Professor, Mentor, or Cooperating Teacher who is a current member of the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA).
- Nominators should submit a formal letter highlighting the nominee’s qualifications, contributions, and potential for success in the field of music education.
Selection Criteria
- Academic Excellence
- Maintain a strong academic record throughout their collegiate studies, particularly in music education-related coursework.
- Leadership in Music Education
- Demonstrate leadership within their collegiate CNAfME chapter, their academic institution, or the broader music education community. Examples include holding an officer position, organizing events, or mentoring peers.
- Involvement in Professional Organizations
- Active participation in CNAfME and other relevant organizations through conference attendance, workshops, or other professional development activities.
- Commitment to Community and Outreach
- Engage in activities that promote music education in the community, such as volunteer teaching, organizing music events, or participating in outreach programs.
- Vision for the Future of Music Education
- Articulate a clear and inspiring vision for their contributions to the field of music education, showcasing innovative ideas and a passion for teaching.
Application Process
- Submission Deadline: All nominations must be submitted by June 15, 2025.
- Required Materials:
- Nomination letter from Professor, Mentor, or Cooperating Teacher.
- Personal statement from the nominee outlining their dedication to music education and career goals.
Award Presentation
- The recipient of the Dr. Lisa Adkins Runner Future Music Educator Award will be announced at the NCMEA annual conference. The honoree will receive a certificate, and recognition at the event.
This award seeks to inspire and celebrate the next generation of music educators who will shape the future of music education in North Carolina and beyond.
