The Director of Traditional Worship Arts is a full-time leadership role responsible for shaping and leading a vibrant, theologically grounded traditional music ministry. This position guides all aspects of traditional worship music—including choral, instrumental, and congregational elements—with the goal of deepening spiritual engagement and fostering meaningful worship experiences.

Working collaboratively with pastoral staff and ministry leaders, the Director oversees the planning and execution of traditional worship services, leads and develops musical ensembles, and cultivates a culture of excellence, participation, and spiritual growth through music. This role also serves as a bridge between church and community, expanding the reach and impact of Mount Tabor’s music ministry through partnerships, special events, and outreach.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and direct all aspects of music for traditional worship services.

Conduct and develop choral and instrumental ensembles. This also includes supervising directors of other ensembles, including handbells.

Collaborate with pastors and worship planning teams to design cohesive, theologically grounded worship services.

Recruit, mentor, and supervise music staff, volunteers, and guest musicians.

Coordinate weekly service logistics, scheduling, and communication using Planning Center Online.

Oversee the music ministry budget, instruments, and music library.

Build relationships within the local music community to enhance programming and outreach.

Partner with the Modern Music Director and other staff to support church-wide worship and special services.

Requirements

Master’s degree in music or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Strong background in vocal training and choral direction; keyboard proficiency preferred.

Minimum of five years’ experience directing music in a church setting.

Demonstrated ability to develop musicianship and lead ensembles effectively.

Deep understanding of the role of music in worship and spiritual formation.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience with worship planning tools (e.g., Planning Center Online).

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with creativity and attention to detail.

Established connections within the music community are a plus.

Leadership & Accountability: This position reports to the Executive Pastor and works closely with the Senior Pastor, Modern Music Director, and other ministry staff.

Schedule Expectations: This role requires regular Sunday morning leadership, weekly rehearsals, and occasional evenings and special services throughout the year.
