Description

Musical Assets Manager

The world is changing rapidly. The world of music—music delivery, music performance, music consumption—is changing. Kindermusik is looking for the right person to help us move gracefully with the changes.

The daily working life of our new Musical Assets Manager will be spent immersed in our music, both what we have in our extensive catalog and what we need to add to it. Daily duties will vary greatly, from focusing on permissions issues, to thinking deeply about the right way to deliver the best music to families and young children, to overseeing the production of new music.

We will think of our new Musical Assets Manager as the guardian of and expert on our most significant assets: our music. In addition to carefully managing our music, this person must also always keep foremost in mind the effect of our music on the people we serve: the families of young children. What music works best to enrich the lives of young children? What music should all children have the opportunity to be exposed to, to learn about, to delight in?

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Catalog all existing music in various ways to provide agility in deciding which selections best fit new and existing products that are in revision.
  • Carefully manage music permissions (with assistance from our attorney as needed) and provide ongoing education to all Kindermusik employees (via webinars, reminders, etc.) about right and wrong usages.
  • Judiciously determine when music should be replaced or updated.
  • Work with the rest of the Product Development team to understand the significant “ripple effect” on various products and their ancillaries, defining exactly what the parameters of new music should be.
  • Oversee the selection of the music (traditional and newly composed), arrangement, production, and release of new music, keeping to a tight schedule and budget.
  • Recommend the best methods and practices for digital delivery of music (for example, via an app).
  • Provide thought leadership in communicating with parents about the advantages of making music a central part of family life.
  • Work with the Directors of Product Development and Global Marketing to ensure impeccable musicality in all materials featuring our music, ranging from lesson plans to social media releases to small musical moments suggested in blogs and workshops.
  • Uphold the Kindermusik tradition of providing music and movement experiences for parents and their children birth through age 7, while providing fresh insights into current practices.

Requirements

  • BA in Music
  • Dedicated to continued musicianship
  • Broad knowledge of current, historical, and world music
  • Relationships with music composers, arrangers, producers, and performers in the field
  • Coursework in Digital Arts
  • 3+ years’ work experience in the music industry, preferably in music production
  • Basic understanding of how young children learn, and keen interest in better mastery of early childhood education. Experience teaching young children or producing children’s music a plus.
  • Commitment to honoring the rights of musicians
  • Strategic Vision: ability to see how current actions affect future outcomes
  • Dedicated to remaining on top of trends in music delivery
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, music software programs
