SUMMARY:Deadline for Conference Proposals
DESCRIPTION:This year\, we are “Putting the Pieces Together” at the NCMEA Professional Development Conference! Yes\, we are referring to putting actual pieces of music together for performance and to putting together the pedagogical building blocks we collect from experts and peers to use in the classroom. But most importantly\, we are referring to every music educator’s contribution as a piece of the puzzle that makes our community complete! No matter who\, what\, or where we teach\, we each have a unique fit that together creates a beautiful whole\, and we look forward to celebrating all of the outstanding music educators in our state. \nNCMEA invites session proposals to be submitted for consideration for the 2024 NCMEA Professional Development Conference in Winston-Salem\, NC on November 9-12\, 2024. Conference participants come from all educational levels and include K-12 students and teachers\, pre-service collegiates\, and higher education faculty in the fields of general music\, band\, chorus\, jazz\, orchestra\, guitar\, piano\, popular music\, and music technology. \nWe invite proposals that cultivate a vision of music education that is inclusive\, collaborative\, and expansive\, keeping in mind the ideals set forth by NCMEA’s strategic framework: \n\nReflect diversity in our profession and represent the wide and changing spectrum of our population. This representation may include various cultures\, abilities\, economic backgrounds\, and gender identities;\nDevelop leadership to advocate for music education in the classroom\, in school programs\, and in the community and represent current trends in education policy at the local\, state\, and federal level;\nProvide opportunities for all students to create\, perform\, respond\, and connect to various styles of music;\nEnhance music teaching through combining effective and dynamic new practices with proven strategies.\n\nThe deadline for submission is March 1\, 2024 at 11:59pm EST. Incomplete proposals will not be considered. \nNCMEA Section Chairs will review and invite speakers/clinicians to present at Conference. All submitters will be notified of the status of their proposals in April 2024. \nSUBMIT CONFERENCE PROPOSALS HERE  \n#ncmea\n#nafme\n#musiceducation\n#musicadvocacy\n#deia \n#puttingthepiecestogether

SUMMARY:Keynote: Mickey Smith Jr - "See the Sound"
DESCRIPTION:Benton Convention Center\nSalem Ballroom 2\nAny teacher can know all the latest techniques\, plan the greatest lessons\, and implement effective classroom management strategies. But what is your “sound?” Your “sound” is your value as well as the unique personal significance you bring to the classroom. Maximizing your awareness and perspective in those you teach and seeing the “sound” in yourself is arguably the most important skill you can possess as a teacher. Without a strong sense of personal significance and emotional resilience\, most teachers won’t stick around long enough in the profession to realize their potential and become not just teachers but phenomenal educators. In a profession that loses 50% of its workforce within the first five years of their careers\, and with teacher shortage estimates in the hundreds of thousands yearly for qualified teachers\, it is critical now more than ever to find new ways to encourage\, equip\, and empower teachers to fall in love with teaching. That starts by seeing the “sound.”
