SUMMARY:Research Presentation Submission Deadline
DESCRIPTION:The NCMEA Research Committee is pleased to announce calls for research posters and student research lightning talks to be presented at the 2026 NCMEA Professional Development Conference\, Nov. 7-10\, 2026 in Winston-Salem\, NC. \nResearch Poster Session\nResearchers selected for the poster session may create a typical research poster or alternative visual media that appropriately and effectively display information about the research. Posters and visual media will be available to all conference attendees during a dedicated research poster session at the conference. Researchers are expected to engage with attendees about their research during this dedicated hour. Complete instructions and specifications for posters and/or visuals will be sent to accepted presenters. \nThe committee invites research\, either completed or in progress\, that relates to teaching and learning music. Special consideration may be given to topics relating to social justice in/through music teaching and learning\, the conference theme\, or topics historically connected to music teaching and learning in North Carolina. \nStudent Research Lightning Talks\nThis session is an opportunity for student researchers (undergraduate-\, masters-\, or doctoral-level) to give an overview of and receive feedback on their current research that relates to teaching and learning music. Researchers selected for the session will have five to eight minutes to present a PechaKucha-style lightning talk on their research\, with an additional five minutes reserved for feedback and discussion with active faculty and researchers in music education. Research projects may be in-progress or recently completed. Presenters should be current music education students\, or those who have completed a degree program and research project within the past year. \nComplete instructions and specifications for presentations will be sent to accepted presenters. Applicants who are not accepted for a lightning talk may elect to have their project considered for the traditional research poster session. \nSubmission Information\nFor either a poster or lightning talk\, researchers should provide an abstract of no more than 500 words. The abstract should include the study title; description of the purpose of the research; summary of method\, data sources\, analysis\, results\, and implications. Studies can be in-progress\, but data collection must be complete at the time of the conference. Abstracts should be saved in a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) document or PDF\, and must be emailed as an attachment to research_chair@ncmea.net with the subject line “NCMEA Research Submission.” In the body of the email\, please include the project title\, author(s)\, institutional affiliations\, email addresses\, and a contact phone number. \nFor lightning talk submissions\, please indicate whether you would like to be considered for the traditional poster session if you are not accepted for a lightning talk. \nAll projects\, abstracts\, and proposals must conform to the ethical research standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the NAfME Society for Research in Music Education. \nSubmission Deadline and Timeline for Acceptance\nSubmissions must be received by September 14\, 11:59 PM EDT.
