SUMMARY:Singer/Songwriter and Music Production Showcase 2025
DESCRIPTION:The North Carolina Music Educators Association’s Singer/Songwriter and Music Producer Showcase is designed to encourage individual musical creativity\, the development of music writing skills\, and collaboration with professionals from the music industry to enhance musicianship and creativity. \nStudents are encouraged to submit their original songs for the experience of sharing and learning ways to develop their songs with professional singer/songwriters and music producers from the music industry at the annual NCMEA’s state conference. \nGeneral Guidelines:\n\nAll North Carolina students in grades K-12 are eligible to participate. Students must\, however\, be nominated by an NCMEA member teacher.\nStudents can enter one of three divisions: elementary (k-5)\, middle school (6-8)\, or high school (9-12).\nStudents should plan to submit their work individually (as a singer/songwriter or music producer in a DAW environment)\nEach student can only be involved in one submission.\nThe submission deadline is 5:00 pm EST on October 25\, 2025.\n\nSubmission guidelines:\n\nSubmissions should be original songs written by the student and are fixed media (songs that are completely pre-recorded).\nSongs should be no longer than 4 minutes in length.\nA wide range of styles or genres of music are encouraged. Students are encouraged to submit any musical style or combination of musical styles.\nStudents will have no more than eight minutes of setup time and four minutes of take-down time for personal equipment.\n\nSubmission Process:\nNCMEA member teachers may nominate as many students as they wish. Each nomination must include the following: \n\nA video recording of a live performance or audio recording of their song.\nA brief description of the student’s musical experiences.\nThe online application will ask for: teacher name(s) and email(s)\, school name(s)\, principal name(s)\, email contacts\, song title\, listing of instrumentation and equipment used\, student name\, email\, school name\, year in school\, and uploaded video/audio files of the song.\n\nThe submission deadline is 5:00pm EST October 25\, 2025. Only applications completed by this time will be considered. Students whose works are selected for presentation at the annual NCMEA Professional Development Conference will be notified by October 30th.

SUMMARY:PD Conference Scholarships Open
DESCRIPTION:The Professional Development Conference Scholarship is intended to provide grant funding to NCMEA members attending the NCMEA Professional Development Conference for the first time. The purpose of this grant is to encourage membership in NCMEA and to encourage yearly participation in the NCMEA Professional Development Conference for the length of a career. \nThree scholarships will be awarded each year. The scholarship funds will cover the cost of conference registration and three nights in the conference hotel. The estimated value of each scholarship is $700. Individuals may receive the scholarship only once in their lifetime. \nThe scholarship is intended for NCMEA members who are first-time attendees to the NCMEA Professional Development Conference (does not include first-year teachers who are a part of the mentor program). The scholarship does not cover the cost of membership dues nor the cost of substitute teachers for the period of the conference. Preference will be given to teachers who are employed in a Title-I school or who provide evidence of strong institutional and/or personal financial need. \nAwardees will be asked to share a written reflection on what they learned at the conference and how they implemented it in their classroom. Reflections may be used by NCMEA in print or online communications.  \nApplication Requirements:\n\nApplicant must have current membership in NCMEA\nApplicant must be employed full time in a music teaching position in North Carolina\nApplication with a signature from current principal\nTwo letters of recommendation\n\nSelection Process:\n\nApplication process opens on August 15th of each year.\nApplication deadline is October 1st. \nA committee appointed by the NCMEA President and approved by the NCMEA Board of Directors will review applications for possible approval.\nThe Executive Director shall notify all applicants of their acceptance or rejection by October 15th.\n\nPD CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

DESCRIPTION:The NCMEA Research Committee is pleased to announce calls for research posters and student research lightning talks to be presented at the 2026 NCMEA Professional Development Conference\, Nov. 7-10\, 2026 in Winston-Salem\, NC. \nResearch Poster Session\nResearchers selected for the poster session may create a typical research poster or alternative visual media that appropriately and effectively display information about the research. Posters and visual media will be available to all conference attendees during a dedicated research poster session at the conference. Researchers are expected to engage with attendees about their research during this dedicated hour. Complete instructions and specifications for posters and/or visuals will be sent to accepted presenters. \nThe committee invites research\, either completed or in progress\, that relates to teaching and learning music. Special consideration may be given to topics relating to social justice in/through music teaching and learning\, the conference theme\, or topics historically connected to music teaching and learning in North Carolina. \nStudent Research Lightning Talks\nThis session is an opportunity for student researchers (undergraduate-\, masters-\, or doctoral-level) to give an overview of and receive feedback on their current research that relates to teaching and learning music. Researchers selected for the session will have five to eight minutes to present a PechaKucha-style lightning talk on their research\, with an additional five minutes reserved for feedback and discussion with active faculty and researchers in music education. Research projects may be in-progress or recently completed. Presenters should be current music education students\, or those who have completed a degree program and research project within the past year. \nComplete instructions and specifications for presentations will be sent to accepted presenters. Applicants who are not accepted for a lightning talk may elect to have their project considered for the traditional research poster session. \nSubmission Information\nFor either a poster or lightning talk\, researchers should provide an abstract of no more than 500 words. The abstract should include the study title; description of the purpose of the research; summary of method\, data sources\, analysis\, results\, and implications. Studies can be in-progress\, but data collection must be complete at the time of the conference. Abstracts should be saved in a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) document or PDF\, and must be emailed as an attachment to research_chair@ncmea.net with the subject line “NCMEA Research Submission.” In the body of the email\, please include the project title\, author(s)\, institutional affiliations\, email addresses\, and a contact phone number. \nFor lightning talk submissions\, please indicate whether you would like to be considered for the traditional poster session if you are not accepted for a lightning talk. \nAll projects\, abstracts\, and proposals must conform to the ethical research standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the NAfME Society for Research in Music Education. \nSubmission Deadline and Timeline for Acceptance\nSubmissions must be received by September 14\, 11:59 PM EDT. DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the Fall Comprehensive Arts Education Conference\, Saturday\, September 26th at the PECK Expeditionary Learning School\, in Greensboro\, NC.  \nThis day-long conference serves as a statewide professional development opportunity for dance\, music\, theatre\, and visual arts educators\, district arts education leaders\, teaching artists\, arts integration specialists\, and pre-service teachers from across North Carolina working in K-12 programs\, independent studios\, performing arts organizations\, and higher education institutions.  \nThe mission of this conference is to support the three essential components of the North Carolina Comprehensive Arts Education Model: Arts Education\, Arts Integration\, and Arts Exposure. Sessions will be centered on the four K-12 Arts Education Standards core strands of Connect\, Create\, Present\, and Respond and aid to reinforce the 2024 standard course of study.  \nThis event is proudly supported by the North Carolina Music Educators Association. SUMMARY:PD Conference Scholarships Application Due
DESCRIPTION:The Professional Development Conference Scholarship is intended to provide grant funding to NCMEA members attending the NCMEA Professional Development Conference for the first time. The purpose of this grant is to encourage membership in NCMEA and to encourage yearly participation in the NCMEA Professional Development Conference for the length of a career. \nThree scholarships will be awarded each year. The scholarship funds will cover the cost of conference registration and three nights in the conference hotel. The estimated value of each scholarship is $700. Individuals may receive the scholarship only once in their lifetime. \nThe scholarship is intended for NCMEA members who are first-time attendees to the NCMEA Professional Development Conference (does not include first-year teachers who are a part of the mentor program). The scholarship does not cover the cost of membership dues nor the cost of substitute teachers for the period of the conference. Preference will be given to teachers who are employed in a Title-I school or who provide evidence of strong institutional and/or personal financial need. \nAwardees will be asked to share a written reflection on what they learned at the conference and how they implemented it in their classroom. DESCRIPTION:NCMEA’s 2026 Collegiate Conference Scholarships will cover the cost of conference registration ($50) for up to 35 deserving Collegiate NAfME members with demonstrated financial need. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in conference sessions for a minimum of two days and are encouraged to attend the Collegiate Business Meeting on Sunday\, November 8th at 4:00 PM.  \nAll collegiate members with financial need are welcome to apply; collegiate students who are first-time conference attendees will receive priority.
