Welcome To Our New Teachers!
Sherry JanuaryContact me at: sjanuary@caa.k12.nc.us
My name is Sherry January and I am in charge of new teachers for our section. I first want to welcome those of you who have been teaching for less than 3 years in NC and/or new to our state. We have a lot of exciting things that go on throughout the year and I am here to help you get through them. I can help you find and fill out the appropriate forms for our various activities and direct you as to where and when to send the form. I will also be glad to find someone in your county or surrounding county to serve as your "MENTOR." That "MENTOR" would be someone you could call on if you have a question and cannot reach me. I always like to set you up with a MENTOR so that you do not feel overwhelmed with all there is to do with being a "new teacher." You can call on this person if your have any questions or concerns about literature, classroom discipline, what student should try out for what choir, etc. There is a host of people who are willing to be there for you in your time of need.
If you do not join NCMEA, your students cannot participate in any of the great events that our section offers such as All-State Chorus, Honors Chorus, Solo/Small Ensemble MPA and Large Choral MPA . Being a part of NCMEA allows you to network with others in your profession. I also strongly encourage you to join ACDA. ACDA sponsors an annual fall conference which is held at UNCG and offers excellent resources for "new" and "seasoned" teachers. Please make sure that you join NCMEA. Joining NCMEA allows you and your students to participate in the events scheduled throughout the school year.
Please make sure to visit www.ncmea.net to access all of the forms needed throughout the year. Please adhere to the Honors Chorus deadline of September 15th. Another important deadline is January 15th. This deadline is required to participate in the Large Ensemble and Solo/Small Ensemble Music Performance Adjudication held each March and April in your specified region.
Again, let me welcome you to the teaching profession and or to the state of North Carolina!! I look forward to meeting you at our fall conference in November.
