High School Choral Section Hall of Fame

The NCMEA High School Choral Section Hall of Fame was created to honor deceased and/or retired choral directors in North Carolina. NCMEA High School Choral Section members are asked to review the criteria for the award and nominate deserving candidates to the past-chair of the NCMEA choral section. The qualifications of each nominee will be reviewed by the past-chair and appointed committee. Three nominees will be selected for the award each year. The award will be presented at the spring High School Choral Section business meeting at the Award recipients will be recognized at the All State Concert.  Click here to learn more…


High School Choral Teacher of The Year

It is with great pride in the teaching excellence of North Carolina’s Choral Music Educators that this honor is bestowed each year. This recognition began in the year 2001 with our first recipient, Barbara Geer (previous recipients of HS Choral Teacher of the Year) The award recipient is selected through a nomination process and voted on during our winter meeting held at the All-State choral event in January of each year. The Teacher of the Year is recognized prior to the performance of the High School Honor Choir at the North Carolina Music Educators Fall Conference in November. Click here to learn more…


Young Composer Showcase

In an effort to find another means for furthering its mission to encourage and promote choral music in North Carolina, the High School Choral Section of NCMEA began the Student Composition Showcase in 2014. The objectives of the showcase are to acknowledge and to reward outstanding high school student composers by presenting the selected piece(s) at the NCMEA conference. The piece will be performed by one of the high school groups who are selected to perform at conference. Following the performance, the student composer will be formally recognized and congratulated on stage.  Click here to learn more…
