Strategic Plan For The North Carolina Music Educators Association
Mission Statement
The mission of the North Carolina Music Educators Association is to promote music as a fundamental component of education and to provide opportunities for lifelong learning by supporting teachers, students and communities in developing and fostering excellence in music.
Strategic Goal A
NCMEA will be a catalyst for ensuring that every child will receive a comprehensive, sequential music education delivered by qualified music educators.Objective A.1.
Disseminate information about the value of music education in the lives of all children.Action Plan:
- A.1.1. Survey students regarding attitudes, academic performance, and co-curricular activities.
- A.1.2. Compile, distribute data for the purpose of demonstrating the importance of music on studentsí attitudes and academic performance.
- A.1.3. Develop and facilitate the scheduling of Public Service Announcements.
- A.1.4. Support the work of the North Carolina Coalition for Music Education.
Objective A.2.
Cooperate with other arts organizations to foster music education across the state.Action Plan:
- A.2.1. Ensure that representatives meet regularly with Arts Education Leadership Coalition (AELC)
Strategic Goal B
Provide professional quality events and opportunities for North Carolinaís students and music educators.Objective B.1.
Continue to hold an annual In-Service ConferenceAction Plan:
- B.1.1. Invite LEA administrators to attend conference.
- B.1.2. Continue to maintain a high level of performance.
- B.1.3. Conduct an annual survey of the membership regarding the effectiveness of the In-Service Conference.
- B.1.4. Provide sessions on critical and timely issues.
Objective B.2.
Support local contests and festivalsAction Plan:
- B.2.1. Make local contests and festivals accessible to as many students of NCMEA members as possible.
- B.2.2. Encourage media coverage of events, contest results.
- B.2.3. Improve publication of information to NCMEA members regarding available events.
- B.2.4. Encourage new teacher participation in contests and festivals.
- B.2.5. Offer support to facilitate additional all-county events.
Strategic Goal C
Encourage excellence in music education by fostering scholarship and personal growth among members.Objective C.1.
Sponsor additional professional development opportunities in the form of seminars and workshops.Action Plan:
- C.1.1. Seek input from membership regarding needs for professional development opportunities.
- C.1.2. Provide symposia/forums on critical issues affecting music programs.
Strategic Goal D
Provide for the ongoing effectiveness of the organization.Objective D.1.
Engage in periodic review of constitution, By Laws and Strategic Plan.Objective D.2.
Provide for regular review of budget and fiscal obligations of the organization.Action Plan:
- D.2.1. Educate the membership regarding fiscal responsibility.
Objective D.3.
Enhance member services.Action Plan:
- D.3.1. Create and maintain membership database in cooperation with NAfME.
- D.3.2. Increase availability and effectiveness of information services.
- D.3.3. Solicit and maintain specific information regarding sponsored events.
Objective D.4.
Recruit all music educators in the state for membershipAction Plan:
- D.4.1. The Board of Directors will establish a goal for annual membership increases.
- D.4.2. Solicit names of new music educators from supervisors and district presidents.
- D.4.3. Engage in ongoing communication with new music educators.
Objective D.5.
Provide professional services to new music educators.Action Plan:
- D.5.1. Establish and maintain mentor program.
